Master Data Management

Do you identify with one of these statements?
  • Do you suffer with multiple, in-consistent views of your data?
  • Could your marketing be improved if you had better information about your customer and the products they purchase?
  • Are your marketing costs unnecessarily high?
  • Do you struggle to maintain a single view of your customers?
  • Could your decision making be improved by better data quality?
  • Do you struggle to identify your higher value customers?
  • Are you under pressure to establish good data governance policies?
  • Are your data storage costs growing increasingly expensive?

If the answer to any of these problems is YES then Master Data Management can help you solve the problem.

What is Master Data Management (MDM)?

MDM is essentially the separation of data from multiple differing systems to create one ‘Master’ data set consolidated in a central hub, combined with the tools and techniques to synchronise that data with the applications that originate and use it. However, MDM goes beyond this apparent data centralisation and can provide the critical infrastructure that facilitates the integration of business applications across the business.

How can Entity help?

At Entity, we are extremely familiar with data management and data governance issues and the process of establishing enterprise level master data that can really service the business well and address many of the issues listed above. In recent years, we have:
  • for a large motor manufacturer we have built a technical content repository that has removed duplicate information, rationalised translation costs, and reduced significantly, the data maintenance costs
  • for a number of insurance companies, we have introduced a central customer ‘hub’ that enables customer information to be shared across multiple, separate systems, improving product sales, reducing marketing costs, and generally reduce data administrative costs.
  • for a royalty distribution company, we have built and deployed a royalty collection and distribution system that has at its heart a central data store of books and serials, with their associated copyright mandates.

The Key Benefits

Customer data integration - getting to know the customer is a critical imperative for any company and a consistent single view of a customer can provide better service to the customer, improved product sales and greater resource efficiency for the company. For example, imagine a marketing campaign that contains duplicate customer information. Customers may be contacted on more than one occasion, not only wasting effort, but destroying the aims of the campaign by frustrating customers with multiple contact. This can often arise with the larger corporate companies that own multiple brands, and often hold separate customer repositories.

Data quality – linking customer or master data across an organisation can have immense benefits, particularly where data changes can be replicated across the organisation obviating the need for double handling and often alerting other parts of the organisation to material changes that may provide valuable ‘intelligence’.

Data governance – with the legal framework for data protection and concerns over disclosure, master data management can aid an organisation to manage its compliance with regulation, and its disclosure of sensitive data.
